Each month, Friends of Residential Treasures Los Angeles (FORT: LA) curates a new self-guided trail, inviting Angelenos to explore the city’s rich architectural heritage. These immersive experiences highlight significant homes, hidden gems, and the designers who have shaped Los Angeles' built environment.
This month’s trail is entitled Designing Identity - Mexican Echoes in LA’s Architecture and is curated by Nicole Shkurovich. It explores how Los Angeles’ residential architecture has been shaped by Mexican influences across history—from pre-Hispanic roots and Spanish Colonial Revival to the cross-border modernism of architects like Luis Barragán and Ricardo Legorreta. This trail invites reflection on how architecture both celebrates and complicates cultural identity in Los Angeles.
